What is an Audiogram ?

An audiogram is a test to assess hearing. It graphically shows the level of your hearing. The threshold of your hearing is measured over different frequencies in order to obtain the characteristic curve of your hearing level .

In the graph of your audiogram you find two axes: The frequency axis and the axis of your hearing level.

The horizontal axis represents the different frequencies. In the graph of each ear, you find on the left the low frequencies (like a sound of an engine ) and on the right the high frequencies (like a whistle) .

The vertical axis represents the sound intensity corresponding to the frequency being tested. The low intensities are on the top and the high intensities are on the bottom. The values are given in decibels, which is abbreviated by dB. A healthy ear begins to hear sounds from 0 dB and reaches the threshold of pain at about 110 dB.
